Principles and Best Practices

Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts fieldwork and programming follows those principles stated by its professional organization, the American Folklore Society, including but not limited to the following statements:

AFTA’s primary method of fieldwork is the oral history interview, and as such, AFTA is also guided by the following principles:

Housed in University Libraries at the University of Arkansas, AFTA is also actively vigilant in upholding university policies concerning discrimination and harassment.

AFTA is happy to provide disability accommodations for all collaborators and guests of AFTA work and programming. AFTA can request accommodations on behalf of individuals outside the University of Arkansas institution if the request is made to AFTA at arfolk@uark.edu. For events on campus, individuals may also request accommodations from the university directly. The university’s policy and procedures are located on the university’s Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance website.
